1.Quick Answer
KPK Government pension is calculated in five steps:
- Pensionable pay = basic pay of the retirement month (plus the retiring-year increment, if it applies) + allowed pensionable allowances.
- Qualifying service = years from appointment to retirement, rounded, with a maximum of 30 years.
- Gross pension = pensionable pay × qualifying service × 7/300.
- Commutation = 35% of gross pension, paid as a lump-sum gratuity. The remaining 65% is your net monthly pension.
- Pension increases and medical allowance are then added to the net pension.

2.Who This Guide Applies To
This guide is for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government employees under the traditional (defined-benefit) pension scheme.
Appointed on or after 1 July 2022? According to the Accountant General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, employees appointed on or after 1 July 2022 come under the Contributory Provident Fund arrangement, not this pension formula. Confirm your scheme with your department or AG KPK before using this guide.
3.Step 1: Your Pensionable Pay
Your pensionable pay starts with your basic pay for the retirement month. Then add:
- Retiring-year increment: if you retire from 1 June to 30 November, one annual increment of your BPS is added for pension purposes. No separate increment is added if you retire from 1 January to 31 May. If you retire on or after 1 December, use the basic pay that already includes the normal 1 December increment, so it isn't counted twice.
- Allowed pensionable allowances: Special Pay, Personal Pay, Qualification Pay, Overseas Pay, Senior Post Allowance and any other allowance that is officially pensionable for your post.
House rent, conveyance and most other allowances are not pensionable.
Pensionable pay = Retirement-month basic pay + retiring-year increment (if applicable) + pensionable allowances
4.Step 2: Count Your Qualifying Service
Qualifying service is counted from your date of appointment to your date of retirement:
Extra months after full years | How they're counted |
|---|---|
1 to 6 months | Ignored |
7 to 11 months | Counted as one more full year |
The maximum service counted for pension is 30 years, even if you served longer.
Example: 29 years, 5 months and 8 days counts as 29 years. 29 years and 7 months counts as 30 years.
Your service book is the official record, so check appointment dates, breaks and leave without pay with your department.
5.Step 3: Calculate Gross Pension (the 7/300 Formula)
Gross pension = Pensionable pay × Qualifying service (years) × 7 ÷ 300
With 30 years of service, gross pension is 70% of pensionable pay (30 × 7 ÷ 300 = 0.70).
6.Step 4: Commutation, Net Pension and Gratuity
KPK pension is split into two parts:
- Commuted portion = 35% of gross pension. You give up this part of your monthly pension in exchange for a lump-sum gratuity.
- Net pension = 65% of gross pension. This is your monthly pension before increases and medical allowance.
Gratuity (commutation amount) = Commuted pension × 12 × Age factor
The age factor comes from the official commutation table and depends on your age at retirement. At age 60, the factor used in our calculator is 12.3719.
7.Step 5: Add Pension Increases
The government announces pension increases in its budgets. HisaabKit's KPK calculator applies these increases one after another, so each new total becomes the base for the next increase:
Year | Increase |
|---|---|
2022 | 15% |
2023 | 17.5% |
2024 | 15% |
2025 | 7% |
2026 (Budget 2026-27) | 7% |
Whether each increase applies to your pension can depend on your retirement date and pay scale, so confirm with AG KPK when your pension case is processed.
8.Step 6: Add Medical Allowance
Medical allowance is worked out on the net pension before increases:
Name of Allowance | Non-Gazetted (BPS-1 to 15) | Gazetted (BPS-16 to 22) |
|---|---|---|
Medical Allowance 2010 | 25% of net pension | 20% of 75% of net pension |
Medical Allowance 2015 | 25% of the 2010 amount | 25% of the 2010 amount |
9.Complete Example: BPS-14 Senior Clerk Retiring in October 2026
Employee details:
Detail | Value |
|---|---|
Post | Senior Clerk, BPS-14 (Non-Gazetted) |
Date of birth | 20 October 1966 |

Date of retirement | 20 October 2026 (age 60) |
Retirement-month basic pay | Rs. 95,600 |
Special Pay | Rs. 1,500 |
Step-by-step calculation:
Step | Calculation | Amount |

Retiring-year increment (retirement in October) | BPS-14 increment | Rs. 2,090 |
New basic pay | 95,600 + 2,090 | Rs. 97,690 |
Pensionable pay | 97,690 + 1,500 | Rs. 99,190 |
Actual service | 29 years, 5 months, 8 days | - |
Qualifying service | 5 months ignored | 29 years |
Gross pension | 99,190 × 29 × 7 ÷ 300 | Rs. 67,118.57 |
Commuted portion (35%) | 67,118.57 × 35% | Rs. 23,491.50 |
Net pension (65%) | 67,118.57 × 65% | Rs. 43,627.07 |
After increases (2022–2026) | 43,627.07 × 1.15 × 1.175 × 1.15 × 1.07 × 1.07 | Rs. 77,617.05 |
Medical Allowance 2010 | 43,627.07 × 25% | Rs. 10,906.77 |
Medical Allowance 2015 | 10,906.77 × 25% | Rs. 2,726.69 |
Monthly pension | 77,617.05 + 10,906.77 + 2,726.69 | Rs. 91,250.51 |
Gratuity (lump sum) | 23,491.50 × 12 × 12.3719 | Rs. 3,487,613.87 |
This employee would receive about Rs. 91,251 per month plus a one-time gratuity of about Rs. 34.88 lakh.
