For a step-by-step explanation using four illustrative teacher cases, including voluntary retirement and a death case, read How to Calculate Punjab Pension in 2026.

Retirement Type

Choose Superannuation for normal retirement, Voluntary Retirement for an eligible early-retirement case, or Death Case when estimating benefits for a death case. The selected option affects the eligibility checks and, for voluntary retirement, the applicable reduction.

The Death option provides an estimate using the calculator’s configured death-case service condition. It does not calculate family-pension entitlement, beneficiary shares, payment duration or succession-related benefits.

Employee Information, BPS and Service Dates

The name, department and designation identify the case. Select BPS 1 to BPS 22; the calculator uses BPS 1–15 as Non-Gazetted and BPS 16–22 as Gazetted for the medical-allowance estimate. Enter valid dates in the correct order so the calculator can measure service and retirement age.

Average Basic Pay Details

For each 1 July reference date, enter basic pay in rupees. Personal pay is optional and is added to basic pay for that year. Other allowances should not be entered as part of average basic pay.

How Is Punjab Pension Calculated?

Punjab pension is estimated using the average pensionable pay for the relevant three 1 July reference dates and the qualifying service counted for pension purposes. The calculator then shows the estimated gross pension, net pension and other pension-related amounts.

How Is Qualifying Service Calculated?

The calculator calculates service from your appointment date to your retirement date. It shows the actual service period and applies the maximum counted service used in the calculation. Service above 30 years remains visible as actual service but does not increase counted service beyond the limit.

Average Basic Pay for Pension

Enter your basic pay for 1 July 2024, 1 July 2025 and 1 July 2026. Personal pay can also be added where applicable. The calculator averages the three yearly totals. Other allowances are not included in average basic pay.

Gross Pension

Gross pension is calculated as average basic pay × counted qualifying service × 7/300. It is the amount calculated before the 75% net-pension step and before any voluntary-retirement reduction.

Net Pension

For superannuation and death cases, the calculator uses 75% of gross pension as the net pension amount. For voluntary retirement, the applicable reduction is then applied.

Medical Allowances

The calculator classifies BPS 1–15 as Non-Gazetted and BPS 16–22 as Gazetted. Medical Allowance 2010 is estimated at 20% of net pension for Gazetted employees and 25% for Non-Gazetted employees. Medical Allowance 2015 is 25% of Medical Allowance 2010 for both classifications. Both components are shown separately in the result.

Commutation

The commutable pension amount is estimated as 25% of gross pension. This is the monthly portion used in the calculation and is not the final commuted lump sum.

Gratuity

When an age factor is available for the employee's age at retirement, estimated gratuity is calculated from the commutable monthly amount, the age factor and 12.

Punjab Pension Rules Used in This Calculator

  • Superannuation uses age 60; the day before the 60th birthday is treated as the age-completion boundary.
  • Voluntary retirement requires age 55 or older and at least 25 counted years of service.
  • The death path does not impose an age restriction, but this estimate checks the supplied 10-year service threshold.
  • Service above 30 years is shown as actual service but capped at 30 counted years.
  • Voluntary reduction applies only to voluntary retirement. The factors are 10%, 8%, 6%, 4% and 2% for ages 55 through 59.

Engine result

  • Classification: Gazetted
  • Age at retirement: 60 years
  • Actual service: 30 years
  • Counted qualifying service: 30 years
  • Average basic pay: Rs 125,000
  • Gross pension: Rs 87,500

  • Medical Allowance 2010: Rs 13,125

  • Commutable pension amount: Rs 21,875
  • Age factor: 12.3719
  • Estimated gratuity: Rs 3,247,623.75

Main calculation steps

  • Average basic pay = (Rs 120,000 + Rs 125,000 + Rs 130,000) ÷ 3 = Rs 125,000
  • Gross pension = Rs 125,000 × 30 × 7 ÷ 300 = Rs 87,500
  • Net pension = Rs 87,500 × 75% = Rs 65,625
  • Medical Allowance 2010 = Rs 65,625 × 20% = Rs 13,125
  • Medical Allowance 2015 = Rs 13,125 × 25% = Rs 3,281.25
  • Total monthly pension = Rs 65,625 + Rs 13,125 + Rs 3,281.25 = Rs 82,031.25
  • Commutable pension amount = Rs 87,500 × 25% = Rs 21,875
  • Estimated gratuity = Rs 21,875 × 12.3719 × 12 = Rs 3,247,623.75

This example is generated from the calculator’s configured Punjab pension model. An official result can differ after verification of the service book, qualifying service, pensionable pay, retirement category and applicable departmental orders.

Who can use this Punjab pension calculator?

Punjab Government employees and their families can use it for an initial estimate, subject to confirmation by the employee's department and pension authority.

Does this calculator apply to employees appointed on or after 8 January 2024?

This calculator applies the configured Punjab pension model shown on the page. The superannuation path in this calculator uses age 60, with the day before the 60th birthday treated as the age-completion boundary.

What are the age and service requirements for voluntary retirement?

This calculator requires age 55 or older and at least 25 years of qualifying service for a voluntary-retirement estimate.

How is qualifying service calculated?

The calculator measures the period from appointment to retirement, shows years, months and days, rounds a fraction beyond six months to the next year, and caps counted service at 30 years.

How is the last three years average basic pay calculated?

It adds basic pay and personal pay separately for 1 July 2024, 1 July 2025 and 1 July 2026, then divides the three yearly totals by three.

How are gross pension and net pension calculated?

The calculator multiplies average basic pay by counted qualifying service and 7/300, with counted service capped at 30 years. It then applies 75% of gross pension; voluntary retirement applies the relevant age-based reduction to that 75% amount.

No. HisaabKit provides a planning estimate only. The result is not an official Punjab Government pension sanction, Pension Payment Order, pension case calculation or departmental decision.
