0.1.Quick answer:
The HisaabKit Punjab Pension Calculator takes basic pay for 1 July 2024, 1 July 2025 and 1 July 2026, averages those three amounts, and uses counted service to estimate gross pension. It then shows net pension, medical allowance, the commutable portion and estimated gratuity. You also choose whether the case is superannuation, voluntary retirement or death. The result is a planning estimate; the department and Accountant General Punjab must check the service record and applicable rules.
It is easier to understand a pension calculation when a colleague brings a service book and three pay figures to the table. So let us sit with four fictional employees of Punjab's School Education Department. We will use ordinary names and plausible figures, show every input, and explain what the result means. These are illustrative cases, not actual employees or sanctioned pensions.
If you already have your own dates and pay figures, open the Punjab Pension Calculator and follow along.
1.Before we calculate Which pay figures belong in the form?
The calculator asks for basic pay on 1 July 2024, 1 July 2025 and 1 July 2026. Enter personal pay separately if it applies. Do not add house rent, conveyance, ad hoc relief or other allowances to basic pay. Use the three figures shown in the employee's pay and service records whenever possible.
In our first two examples we assume a steady one-increment difference between successive July entries so readers can see the arithmetic. The Basic Pay Scale & Stage Calculator lists an annual increment of Rs 2,380 for BPS-15 and Rs 2,720 for BPS-16. A real employee's older July pays may differ because of promotion, pay fixation, personal pay or changes in the applicable pay scale. Never reconstruct an official service-book entry by subtraction when the actual pay record is available.
The calculator adds the three basic-pay figures (and any entered personal pay), divides by three, counts eligible service and shows each pension component. All four examples below assume Rs 0 personal pay.
2.Example 1 Ayesha Saleem, EST (General), BPS-15 retirement at 60
Ayesha Saleem is an EST (General), BPS-15, in Punjab's School Education Department. She was born on 1 September 1966, appointed on 1 September 1996, and retires on 1 September 2026. For this illustration, her July 2026 basic pay is Rs 83,470. She asks, “What did the previous two July figures look like if each was lower by one BPS-15 increment?”
Reference date | How we get the illustrative basic pay | Basic pay |
|---|---|---|
July 2026 | Rs 83,470 1 July 2025 | Rs 83,470 |
July 2025 | Rs 83,470 − Rs 2,380 | Rs 81,090 |
July 2024 | Rs 81,090 − Rs 2,380 | Rs 78,710 |
Three-year average | (83,470 + 81,090 + 78,710) ÷ 3 | Rs 81,090 |
We select Superannuation and BPS-15. The calculator marks BPS-15 Non-Gazetted. Her dates give 30 counted years of service and age 60 at retirement.
Result shown by the calculator's model | Estimate |
|---|---|
Average basic pay | Rs 81,090.00 |
Gross monthly pension | Rs 56,763.00 |
Net monthly pension after 25% commutation | Rs 42,572.25 |
Medical Allowance 2010 | Rs 10,643.06 |
Medical Allowance 2015 | Rs 10,643.06 |
Medical Allowance 2015 | Rs 2,660.77 |
Total estimated monthly pension, including these allowances | Rs 55,876.08 |
Commutable monthly portion | Rs 14,190.75 |
Age factor used | 12.3719 |
Estimated gratuity | Rs 2,106,798.48 |
Here is the main arithmetic: Rs 81,090 × 30 × 7 ÷ 300 = Rs 56,763 gross pension. The calculator takes 75% of that gross amount as net pension. It then adds the two displayed medical allowances to reach the monthly estimate. The Rs 14,190.75 commutable portion is a monthly calculation component, not a second monthly payment; the age factor turns that component into the displayed one-time gratuity estimate.
3.Example 2 Bilal Javed, SST (Science), BPS-16 retirement at 60
Bilal Javed is an SST (Science), BPS-16. He has the same example birth, appointment and retirement dates as Ayesha: 1 September 1966, 1 September 1996 and 1 September 2026. His assumed basic pay on 1 July 2026 is Rs 88,120. This time we step backward by the illustrative BPS-16 increment of Rs 2,720.
Reference date | How we get the illustrative basic pay | Basic pay |
|---|---|---|
July 2026 | Starting figure | Rs 88,120 |
July 2025 | Rs 88,120 − Rs 2,720 | Rs 85,400 |
July 2024 | Rs 85,400 − Rs 2,720 | Rs 82,680 |
Three-year average | (88,120 + 85,400 + 82,680) ÷ 3 | Rs 85,400 |
We select Superannuation and BPS-16. The calculator marks him Gazetted. With 30 counted years and age 60, the estimated breakdown is:
Result shown by the calculator's model | Estimate |
|---|---|
Average basic pay | Rs 85,400.00 |
Gross monthly pension | Rs 59,780.00 |
Net monthly pension after 25% commutation | Rs 44,835.00 |
Medical Allowance 2010 | Rs 8,967.00 |
Medical Allowance 2015 | Rs 2,241.75 |
Total estimated monthly pension, including these allowances | Rs 56,043.75 |
Commutable monthly portion | Rs 14,945.00 |
Age factor used | 12.3719 |
Estimated gratuity | Rs 2,218,776.55 |
Bilal's gross pension is Rs 85,400 × 30 × 7 ÷ 300 = Rs 59,780. His average pay is higher than Ayesha's, but the monthly totals are close. In this calculator, BPS-15 is classified as Non-Gazetted and BPS-16 as Gazetted; that changes the displayed medical-allowance calculation. Compare the whole breakdown, not basic pay alone.
4.Example 3 Nadia Anum, SS, BPS-17 voluntary retirement at 55
Nadia is an SS, BPS-17, born on 1 September 1971 and appointed on 1 September 1996. She is considering Voluntary Retirement on 1 September 2026, at age 55 after 30 counted years. Her illustrative July basic pays are Rs 91,130 in 2024, Rs 95,240 in 2025 and Rs 99,350 in 2026. We use her stated figures; the decision depends on her verified dates and pay records.
Item | Calculation or result |
|---|---|
Three-year average basic pay | (91,130 + 95,240 + 99,350) ÷ 3 = Rs 95,240.00 |
Gross monthly pension | Rs 66,668.00 |
Net pension before voluntary reduction | Rs 50,001.00 |
Voluntary reduction at age 55 | 10% |
Net pension after voluntary reduction | Rs 45,000.90 |
Medical Allowance 2010 | Rs 9,000.18 |
Medical Allowance 2015 | Rs 2,250.05 |
Total estimated monthly pension | Rs 56,251.13 |
Commutable monthly portion | Rs 16,667.00 |
Age factor used | 15.1478 |
Estimated gratuity | Rs 3,029,620.59 |
The important conversation with Nadia is about the age-55 reduction. The calculator first reaches Rs 50,001 net pension, then reduces that amount by 10% to Rs 45,000.90. Its displayed allowances are calculated from the reduced net amount. Do not compare a voluntary retirement estimate with a superannuation case without checking the age, service, pay and reduction together. The Punjab Finance Department's pension reforms overview describes premature-retirement conditions and a 2% per-year discount capped at 10%.
5.Example 4 Rashid Waseem, PST, BPS-14 his son asks about a death case
Rashid, a PST, BPS-14, dies on 1 September 2026. His son Hamza brings the service details: Rashid was born on 1 September 1976, appointed on 1 September 2001, and had 25 counted years of service. His illustrative basic pays were Rs 54,230 on 1 July 2024, Rs 56,320 on 1 July 2025 and Rs 58,410 on 1 July 2026. Their average is Rs 56,320.
We select Death, enter Rashid's own employee details and use 1 September 2026 as the death-case date. The calculator classifies BPS-14 as Non-Gazetted.
Employee-side result from the calculator's death path | Estimate |
|---|---|
Average basic pay | Rs 56,320.00 |
Counted service / age at death | 25 years / 50 years |
Gross monthly pension | Rs 32,853.33 |
Net monthly pension in this calculation model | Rs 24,640.00 |
Medical Allowance 2010 | Rs 6,160.00 |
Medical Allowance 2015 | Rs 1,540.00 |
Model's total monthly estimate | Rs 32,340.00 |
Commutable monthly portion | Rs 8,213.33 |
Age factor used | 18.3129 |
Model's estimated gratuity | Rs 1,804,918.69 |
What should we tell Hamza? These are figures produced from Rashid's employee details under the calculator's Death option. Rs 32,340 is not a quoted family pension for Hamza, and Rs 1,804,918.69 is not a confirmed amount payable to him. The calculator does not decide eligible survivors, family-pension rates, beneficiary shares, payment duration or the family's final entitlement. Hamza should take the service record and required family documents to Rashid's department and the Accountant General Punjab pension office for the actual death and family-pension case.
6.How to run your own Punjab pension estimate
- Open the Punjab Pension Calculator and select the correct retirement type.
- Enter the employee's name, department, designation and BPS. The calculator derives Gazetted or Non-Gazetted status from BPS.
- Check the date of birth, date of appointment and retirement or death-case date against the service book.
- Enter basic pay separately for 1 July 2024, 1 July 2025 and 1 July 2026. Add personal pay in its own fields only when applicable.
- Review the counted service, average pay, gross and net pension, allowances, commutable portion and gratuity. Download the PDF result if you need to discuss the estimate with your office.
The calculator's configured model uses the three-year average and counted qualifying service, with a maximum of 30 counted years. For a 2026 estimate it expects the three July dates shown above; for a different retirement year, confirm that the tool's displayed pay-reference dates fit your case before using it. Actual service and counted service are shown separately.
Scheme check: Punjab's pension reforms overview states that a funded defined-contribution scheme applies to new public-sector entrants from 8 January 2024. The four fictional employees above were appointed earlier and illustrate the calculator's pension model. Anyone appointed on or after that date, or covered by another scheme, should confirm the applicable scheme with their department before using these examples for planning.
7.Your next step
Bring your three July basic-pay entries and service dates to the Punjab Pension Calculator. Keep its PDF result beside the service book and ask the department to check any mismatch before making a retirement decision.
